ss training session entitled “The Art of Negotiation” has started for the Group 1 in the School for Senior Civil Service of Ukraine. The session is the part of the module “Leadership and Effective Communication” and is conducted in the framework of the Leadership Development Program: the Administrative Reform 2001 with the support of the HRM-Project.

The trainings, which are to take place in the two first decades of June, are conducted by Elizaveta Baran’, expert in negotiation process. Ms. Baran’ worked in cooperation with the leading experts of Harvard Negotiation Project on the solving of conflict situation in Iraq, where she headed the national project of the conflict resolution.

The training is dedicated to the key factors that influence the process of negotiation, the basic models of negotiation, and the instruments of the preparation for negotiations. The material is prepared on the basis of Harvard model of negotiation and the experience of the experts from the Canadian School for Civil Service.

Summarizing the results of the first of the first training that took place on the 31st of June – 1st of July, the participants expressed their satisfaction from the taking part in the event, noting that their colleagues “lose a lot because of being unable to participate in such trainings.” The participants also marked that the approaches to negotiation process that are considered during the training were universal, and that the practical exercises that constitute a significant part of the training, were not only very interesting, but also extremely useful.

On the 8th of July in the framework of the training session it is planned to organize video communication with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada in order to discuss the practice of Canada’s preparation to conduct international negotiations on the example of agreements on free trade, particularly with Sandy McLaren, Deputy director of trade negotiations and Daniel Bieber, Senior Advisor on trade policy of Trade Negotiations Department.
